I know I can certainly identify with someone who has made a youthful mistake in choosing his friends!

James is hanging out with a blowhard, and the end of chapter 7 hints that the amity extends to the sister. I even identify with James's slight soft shoe routine in responding to Catherine's statement of appreciation for him coming all the way to Bath in order to see her. This chapter is a marvelous use of few words to introduce these two new characters.
