Are you new?

His previous conversations with Catherine demonstrated him to be playful & slightly teasing, as well as capable of self deprecation. He also seeks topics which are of interest to the ladies with whom he is conversing. At peril of losing his membership card in The Man Club he professes enjoyment of and competence in concerns generally considered to be female. I think most would find him flattering, not rude.
