that she preferred cricket to doing anything like nursing a dormouse. I'm not sure that she actually did nurse a dormouse. I think this is one of those things Austen throws in to show that Catherine is not like the typical gothic heroine - the gothic heroine would nurse a dormouse, but Catherine prefers cricket.
