Ch.2 L&T question: Mrs. Allen's clogs Written by Line (3/2/2009 9:22 a.m.)

We are told that during the journey to Bath, Mrs. Allen is afraid that she has left her clogs behind at an inn. Can anyone tell me what JA meant by "clogs"?
