In order to be in training, however, it seems to me that Catherine would have to be reading books that have heroines. I've always taken that to mean that she has read novels with dramatic heroines - so she's already familiar with at least some Gothic novels. She says she hasn't read the new ones, but I think she's not unfamiliar with the genre.
