...Henry is complimenting her on obtaining a good bargain. Then he tells her (or at least claims) that he understands bargaining for muslin. Depending on credit, supply, and demand, such products as imported (Indian) muslin might very frequently in price.

Perhaps someone knowledgeable about commerce of the time could say the relative place of bargaining vs. fixed prices was in Jane's era.
