Cricket   Written by Virginia (3/1/2009 5:51 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, And she liked to play cricket, penned by Elbč

Mrs. Morland may be the only mother or mother figure of a Jane Austen heroine who would allow her daughter to play cricket. I remember Anne Hathaway as Jane playing cricket in Becoming Jane -- Mrs. Bennet didn't seem all that pleased. But Catherine like Jane was raised with brothers and it seems natural that she would grow up loving cricket and other games. And Mrs. Morland is one of Jane's most sensible mothers.
