One thing I've noticed in ch.1 is that at 15, Catherine's "features were softened by plumpness and colour", yet another indication that in JA's time, a certain plumpness was in, and thinness was out. I wonder what it meant that her figure gained more "consequence" - just that it filled out, and why would JA use the word "consequence" to describe it?
Also, can anyone tell me what the Pope quotation "bear about the mockery of woe" means? Not knowing the context, I simply can't figure it out!
