I think that Thorpe is a guys guy and all of his bluster and self assuredness probably makes him very popular with a lot of other college guys. He is the type that will never gow up and stay stuck. James however, will outgrow him and do better eventually. As far as Isabella is concerned we know she was very attractive and able to garner deep affection from others quickly. James is still heartbroken and so enamoured by possibly is first serious love that it will take time to get over it and by lloking back through rose colored glasses may never see her faults. However, once being stung I think he will be more cautious next time.
