Excellent summary - only one tiny gripe   Written by Sarah Hannah (4/24/2006 10:56 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Gothic background of NA., penned by MandyN
Are you new?

"Northanger Abbey" was the title chosen by Jane Austen's brother for its posthumous publication with "Persuasion." If JA had had her way, it probably would have been titled "Catherine." Perhaps her brother was trying to carry forth the Gothic theme by giving the book its name as we know it, but it was not JA's intention.

Please correct me if I'm wrong - I'm pretty sure that's the case.
-Sarah Hannah :-)
