I like your comparisons.   Written by Emmeline (4/24/2006 5:33 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, 'gothic' (focus), penned by Reeba
Are you new?

I have a thought about Catherine's suspicions. I remember when I first read the book I was very much surprized. Catherine has not a suspicious nature, and does not tend to think ill of people. So why should she suuspect anyone of so atrocious a crime? But now, having read the book many times, and also having read Udolpho and other Gothic novels, I have a better understanding. The perfect heroines of Gothic novels also suspect people of doing awful things. I'm glad Catherine is compeletely cured.
