Are you new?

I think it is the General that makes Eleanor embarassed because of his over-the-top manner towards Catherine and, as you say, he interupts her when she is asking Catherine to NA. I feel also because she probably knows he has all these ideas of Catherine's fortune which probably do not match up with Catherine's behavior. I do not think Eleanor is shy because I beleive she converses well with Catherine on their walk. :D
