Their use in architecture, as finials on gateposts, and in silverplate etc can be seen too. There is even an 18th century folly/summer house built in the shape of a pineapple by Lord Dunmore in Scotland.

I suppose we (and Catherine) are to take the general's pineapples as a symbol of great wealth?
