Yes, I think it is very helpful to read 'Udolpho'.

I too am not so fond of 'horror' and some parts in here were quite chilling.
Emily's visit to her father's grave was described like a scene from a modern horror film, and I expected something horrible to happen, but nothing did.

Catherine's interest in this type of book can be compared to the modern interest in scary movies ;-)
