I was probably not so clear.

You are quite right. The parodying by Henry and the way Catherine reacted show two contrasting pictures of two types of readers.

So JA seems to have killed *three* birds with one stone;

1. Parodying the novel.
2. Parodying a certain type of reader (Catherine).
3. And showing us how these books should be read and taken - like Henry does.

Thanks for your response, Mandy. As usual we agree on this book. :-)
