Good Response   Written by Phil (4/17/2006 6:23 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Don't think so., penned by MandyN
Are you new?

I really wonder about this whole passage. It is hard for me to decide if she is making fun of men or of women our satirizing society as a whole in these passages. One of the reasons I can not make up my mind exactly what she is doing is because I am afraid of letting my own 21st century sensibilities (and wife:)) influence my view of this. What was JA thinking or saying here and how did her readers respond to it. Did they get it?
