One more thing :o)   Written by Nicki (4/15/2006 3:56 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, My focus - Brother and sister relationships, penned by Nicki
Are you new?

The other thing I found interesting was the way they addressed each other face-to-face.

  • Isabella calls John "brother". This can be taken as intimate, but to only call him by his relation to herself and not use his name/identity...
  • John doesn't really talk to Isabella much. To Catherine, he calls her 'Belle'.
  • The Morlands and the Tilneys are more affectionate. For the most part, they call each other by their first names, with now and again a "my dear Catherine"(Ch.7) or "my dear Eleanor"(Ch.14).

When they are talking to others, most use a 'my sister/brother' or the first name - excepting, of course, the charming John Thorpe.
