What I meant by 'the brother'   Written by Emmy (4/13/2006 11:22 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Of course. ;-), penned by Reeba
Are you new?

in P&P Caroline makes the statement (as I recall) in that she really likes Jane (for the moment with no other acquaintances) but the mother she can't stand. It's an exclamation of exasperation. That is what I meant. CM likes Isabella, but the brother! (as in JT) How must she bear it?

However, what you said about the brother - as in James - certainly holds true. I cannot imagine him not coming to CM's defense and him haranging her along with them. And I have to look to see when JT actually left Bath - was it the actual Tuesday that he said would prevent the party from going on that day? Or did he stick around longer? I'll have to look to see whether the book says so or not.

(And that will be my last comment about P&P - I know we're not supposed to talk about other books. It was just supposed to be in passing). Sorry it needed more explanation! : )
