James is not a leader   Written by Jodie R (4/12/2006 11:48 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, What do you think of James, so far?, penned by Maisy
Are you new?

This is my first reading of Northanger Abbey, so I am meeting everyone for the first time!

I was thinking about this last night, and I think James is a bit of a sheep. He seems to find it easier to follow along with his much stronger (more forceful?) friends' wishes than to see that they are treating his sister poorly. I agree with what others have said about him being young and immature, rather than being a nasty piece of work like the Thorpes are.

Catherine on the other hand is just beginning to know her own mind, and isn't afraid to fight for what she thinks is right. I think she is heading towards being a much stronger person than her brother!
