This is H.C.'s "rough" map of Bath from the Jane Info. Pages. I thought it would make a nice companion to Jan's post about newspapers. She mentioned that the Austens' lodgings were in Queen Square, which you'll find left/center on the map.
In addition to the Pump Room, Upper and Lower Rooms, and the Royal Cresent, the map also provides the locations of other places of note:
- Pulteney Street - location of the Allens' and Catherine's lodgings in Bath.
- Milson Street - location of the Tilney's lodgings.
- Laura Place - JT and James drive the young ladies through here on their attempted trip to Blaize Castle: "They passed briskly down Pulteney Street, and through Laura Place" (ch. 11).
- Argyle Street - this is where Catherine sees the Tilneys (and begs JT to stop) during the ride to Blaize Castle: "We were much obliged to you at any rate for wishing us a pleasant walk after our passing you in Argyle Street: you were so kind as to look back on purpose" (ch. 12).
- Brock Street - "Thorpe told her it would be in vain to go after the Tilneys; they were turning the corner into Brock Street, when he had overtaken them, and were at home by this time" (ch. 13).
