Does anyone know if Bath had unique attributes as a place to meet new people? Since people came from all over, the population was varied and always changing but also small enough that sooner or later you'd run into almost everyone. Would dances in any other popular tourist places have been similar. For example, would there have been frequent assemblies for example at Lyme Regis or Oxford where out of towners would feel welcome?
