In high school, I went through this phase too... Though as Barbara noted above, it is hard to shorten "Mary" :) So I changed the spelling of my name to Marei. (But it was still to be pronounced Mare-y) My older sister would call me Mah-rye just to irk me. It is something that still makes me laugh though. Katrina had it right! Teenagers, LOL!
