Are you new?

She was mortified because Mr Thorpe had left her waiting and she would much rather have danced with Mr Tilney but the rules dictate that she had to wait for her promised partner. How awful to get what you want and not be able to take it! (and be stuck with something/one not at all likely to compensate)
