I have been longing to read these.   Written by Reeba (4/6/2006 11:15 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Rules of Conduct at the Upper Rooms circa 1813, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

I am now wondering if Mrs. Radcliffe was allowed entrance , having a shop to look after. Also Mrs. Elton! And if the benefit balls for the master of ceremenoies were his earnings

Some rules are very interesting;

-That the MC had to be there a quarter of an hour earlier to receive the company, tells us why Mrs. Allen and Catherine missed out on meeting him. Perhaps later he thougt everything was alright, while Mrs. Allen didn't know she could approach him to be introduced to a 'large aquaintance'.

-Not to wear coloured pantaloons.
-Dancing shall be 'unlimited', till morning, I think.
-No servant to be admitted at all.
Well, I am not surprised. I can imagine the crowd - which would be doubled :-D

Thanks a lot, Julie. All this is very much appreciated.
