my opinion of her is based on her oft repeated/FUP;

'I wish you could dance my dear.'

But you are right, she is supposed to be rather calm from what one reads in Ch2;

The air of a gentlewoman, a great deal of quiet, inactive good temper, and a trifling turn of mind...

Mrs. Allen did all that she could do in such a case by saying very placidly, every now and then, “I wish you could dance, my dear — I wish you...

We'll have to see what is in store in further chapters.;-)
