NA - a little piece of history   Written by Kelley B (4/4/2006 10:00 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, The Lower Rooms, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

That is pretty interesting how NA along with Persuasion can reflect such a big shift. Reading your post reminds me of the disclaimer at the beginning of NA that states that most of the information is dated due to the fact it was written many years before it was actually published. I can see an early 19th century reader of NA thinking, "The Lower Rooms!! How unfashionable!" I always thought that little note was a bit of a joke (and maybe it partially was) but I can also see the need to warn people as to what to expect and to remind them of when it was written. The idea seems odd but clearly it would have helped to make this known.
