Not a first time reader, but...   Written by Reeba (4/4/2006 6:32 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, First Time Impressions of Isabella Thorpe, penned by Pennie
Are you new?

can remember the time very well. :-)

I am one of those who loved the novel the very first time, because it is so chuckle worthy (my favourite kind).

She reminds me of Mrs. Elton in Emma -
all that talk of balls at Turnbridge and fashions in London.

I have found her amusing till now, quite the comical figure (same as the first time I read it); setting out to humble the other sex, when her intentions are quite the opposite. LOL!!

This *chasing after the alarming young men* is one of my favourite 'humour' moments.
The contrast between Catherine and Isabella is in itself very amusing
- one, all innocent concern, the other, all wordly and wise ;-)
-one, proposing ways to avoid them while the other, running after *the alarming men* to avoid them. LOL!!

The greatest laugh I got was when;
In a few moments Catherine, with unaffected pleasure, assured her that she need not be longer uneasy, as the gentlemen had just left the pump–room.... T
The first time I read, I burst out laughing here.

Shallow she is, I agree. It especially shows in the way she talks about her 'friend' Miss Andrews.
