Just as an aside:   Written by Caroline (4/3/2006 3:58 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, A cruel assessment? (and a vocabulary question), penned by Line
Are you new?

If you have a copy of Udopho, then you might have a look at the heroine's education- she's a paragon and a prodigy, picking up a guitar one day and bringing tears to the eyes of her listeners with the glory of her playing after two weeks, having superb "natural taste" in reading and poetry, and loving nature, painting it beautifully, and generally being an unbelievable pain.

Methinks this line quoted by Barbara B is just JA mocking the Gothic yet again.
