As we know, JA had first-hand knowledge of Bath from visits to her Aunt and Uncle Leigh-Perrot.
She also lived in Bath for a number of years and attended assemblies with her mother and aunt and observed the goings on and competition for husbands.

I believe JA once likened the Bath assembly balls to a battle ground !
