More non-heroics   Written by Line (4/2/2006 10:40 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Catherine's unheroic parents, penned by KateL
Are you new?

Good point about literary heroines even today hardly ever being the well-adjusted product of a loving, functional family!

Also, please note the decidedly unheroic way in which the potential heroes of this novel make their appearance. Catherine is introduced to Henry Tilney by the master of ceremonies at a dance because she doesn't have a partner. (Shouldn't a heroine start attracting partners the moment she enters a ballroom, without needing help from anyone else?)

John Thorpe does a little better, by dashing up in a gig, but even he is introduced mainly because he is Catherine's brother's friend and her friend's brother. So prosaic!
