Seekers   Written by Robbin (4/2/2006 3:22 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Samuel Richardson, penned by Heather L
Are you new?

Thanks Healther L, the essay was very interesting and a little chilling to my modern sensibilities! :D I can see why JA pokes fun at the sentiments in Rambler 97; I cannot envision her wit imprisoned in the role that Mr. Richardson advocates for women and I think he would be shocked at all of JA’s heroines, call them seekers and expose them in print--oh dear! Even young Catherine at the tender age of 17 has already exposed herself in public by being seen at a ball, let alone dancing at a ball. I feel so lucky that JA herself, in her letters and her heroines, in her novels have all been exposed in print—thank goodness for forward spirits! :D
