This also ties in with Isabella's remark in Ch. 6 that "the men think us incapable of true friendship", and then proceeds to trash her 'friend' Miss Andrews by calling her "amazingly insipid", and stating that she 'wants animation'.

Catherine seems unable to recognize the discrepancy in Isabella's words at this stage.
