Mrs. Allen gets my vote in the first three chapters   Written by Caron (4/1/2006 9:48 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Oh what fools these mortals be!, penned by Carolyn
Are you new?

Mrs. Allen enters into a conversation about her dress and fabric with a young man she doesn't really know. She has a young woman with her, most older women we've seen in JA would have plans to either get Catherine a governess position or get her married!

But Mrs. Allen prattles on about her dress. It seemed to tell me much about Mrs. Allen. I haven't read NA before, so I don't know if I have an inaccurate first impression. But for now she gets my vote!
