... there was one version where Fanny got upset about something, and we saw her saddling her own horse to go out. Huh? This is the girl who is always accompanied when she goes riding, and gets "lifted on" to her horse. At that point, I gave up and switched off. But I think it might be the same version where Mansfield house looked semi-derelict, with plaster falling off the walls. I know Sir Thomas was short of cash, but there is no hint in the book that the house suffered. It's always described in terms of luxury and grandeur.
I think any Jane Austen novel needs a mini-series to do it justice. Try to cut it to the length of one movie, and it has to be gutted.
