Just noticed something   Written by Lisa Dalrymple (10/25/2010 12:44 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, More Reordered Folk, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

JA says about Mr. Rushworth: "He was released from the engagement.."? Why engagement instead of marriage? I looked it up in Johnson's 1823 dictionary and the definition of engagement is "an obligation, a bond; employment of the attention; a battle". So did JA mean he was released from the bond of marriage, or the battle for Maria? Both? hhhmmmm
