Even Mary recognizes that
"Henry ... would have taken no pains to be on terms with Mrs. Rushworth again. It would have all ended in a regular standing flirtation, in yearly meetings at Sotherton and Everingham." (Ch. 47)

IMO, if Fanny had married Henry they could have ended like in "The Tenant of Wildfel Hall". (Although Henry doesn't seem to be so awful as Arthur Huntingdon)
