Henry's disinterest   Written by Bridget D (10/18/2010 9:35 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Interest that does not Disgrace, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

well honestly I think that virtually NO action is completely disinterested! I think that yes some of Sir T's desire to help was out of pride and wanting to have "all his relatives in respectable situations" and Darcy too had SOME small self interest in not wanting the Bennets to be possibly ruined and having to withdraw from society.. but really it is very little!! I think I'd have to discount it...

But almost all Henry's actions seem to be done with the desire to get some good for himself...
As another poster has siad, we dont hear of anyone saying that he was good to his servants and tenants, as we do of Darcy... and it DOES seem as if the idea of trying to hlep the poor on his estate has only coem ot him when he has realised that Fanny's affections MIGHT be won if he is "seen to be doing good and being a good landlord".
