Now we're into week 6, this 'signature speech' of Fanny's is up for discussion: We have all a better guide in ourselves, if we would attend to it, than any other person can be.

It's a pretty clear rejection of the "Be my conscience" moments that have already been mentioned in this thread, and of Sir Thomas's earlier "You don't know what you're about, so why not just do as I advise?" attitude. (Patrons can be so patronising sometimes.)
