Fanny seems to prefer to live in an environment where at least good breeding existed, even if somethings within were wanting. Many of the disadvantages of the Price home originate from a small income, but have become amplified because of the character and personality of the Prices themselves.

However, the largest cause of distress to Fanny, I believe, is the noise. To someone who has had to suffer so much emotional and mental stress all her life, Mansfield provided at least the escape of an East Room. Here, she did not even have the comfort of her own room, no boundaries of personal space, and no respite from noise.
