I think this letter is brilliant, with Mary vividly before us in every line. You make a good point about the similarity between Mary's pungent mode of expression and the narrator/JA - they both have a decidedly satirical eye.
Her description of the greetings between her and the Bertram sisters is spot on. I should think most of us have observed or experienced this sort of gushing over-emphatic 'delight' that is actually a mask for indifference. For me this is one of the many instances which show that some sorts of behaviour haven't changed much in two hundred years.
