Thank you for posting this Tarn - great background details. I had not heard of the "Country Party" before, and was not aware of this informal grouping of squires unaffiliated to the Whigs or Tories.

I like the story of William Pryce-Cumby's satire. I wonder if JA could have heard this tale from her naval brothers and named William Price in reference to him.
