This over-solicitous act just didn't seem genuine to me (even if by some stretch of the imagination, it was). I can't believe that the worldly Henry could not perceive that this was distressing to Fanny. In today's world one could file for harassment and/or obtain a restraining order against such non-stop pressure/almost torment we see here. I really felt for Fanny also. She had no support and no recourse.
