Immoral   Written by Ramya (10/13/2010 10:46 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Perhaps "immoral" is a little strong but . . ., penned by KatharineW
Are you new?

Yes, the Prices are horrible parents and JA paints a stark picture of their failings. However, to me, the word immoral conjures images of lust and debauchery. Most people in MP are quite flawed. Dr. Grant may be said to exhibit the sin of gluttony, Mrs. Nasty- Greed, Julia- Envy, Sir Thomas- Wrath, Maria- Pride, and Mrs. Price and Lady Bertram- Sloth. (I do believe this was touched upon in one of the former group-reads). However, I wouldn't call any of them immoral. I think we disagree on the definition of immoral, but are quite agreed on the characters of the Prices.

Mansfield Park is, IMO, the most layered of JA's works. There's more to get from it every single time!
