It's pleasing to see Fanny take on the challenge of improving someone else. It's a bit of a Goldilocks situation. She contemplated the challenge that was Henry, but “I would not engage in such a charge,” cried Fanny, in a shrinking accent; “in such an office of high responsibility!” (ch35). She contemplated the challenge that was Susan, and it was just right, so she ate it all up. So to speak.
