I never noticed it before, but I believe this is proof again of JA's genius.

I have someone in my family who also constantly repeats everything they say, and also to whom you can never just say something once - they ask you to repeat it again and again, as if they hadn't understood the first time.

Although I love this relative dearly, this part of their personality is sooooo annoying, and I find it fascinating that JA built something like that into a novel. She probably knew someone like that.
