in consequence of the missive, Portsmouth, penned by Bridget D
has been filled with suffering, embarrassment, and many a time, terror. I find it hard to believe that she would have had to face these at Portsmouth every day, whatever the privations of Poverty may have been.
If you are taking a little girl out of her family with the intention of giving her a better life, but your actual treatment of her involves sternness, unkindness, and cruelty, she may as well have been left with her family, where she belonged, and where she wouldn't have missed the advantages of a better education.
My point is, Fanny has happy memories of her childhood at Portsmouth, whereas, even happy memories of her life at MP are bittersweet. I am starting to repeat myself, so I'll stop here. ;-)
