the education and upbringing she received at Mansfield,compared to what type of education and upbringing she would have had in Portsmouth, greatly incrase her marriage prospects. If she had grown up as a Price of Portsmouth, the only marriage prospects she would have had would be men of her father's social and economic class, whereas by living with the Bertrams, she received an education and learned social skills that would enable her to atract men of a higher class.
