. . . hymn text whenever I re-acquaint myself with Fanny Price:

" . . . Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire---O still small voice of calm."

I heartily agree that it is Fanny's stillness and her ability to pass un-noticed among the noisy crowd that enables her to observe so keenly the drama that surrounds her.
