Heartbreak and hope in Ch 27...   Written by jeffrey (10/8/2010 2:34 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Subtle changes in Fanny, penned by Barb JA
Are you new?

It is so sad that Edmund seeks out Fanny to confide in her his feelings toward Mary. All this while she secretly adores him by cherishing his chain, his little note attached to same, his fond kiss of her hand, his looks, his compliments, his company, his conversation and yes, his valuing her opinion.

It is difficult to get through the latter part of this chapter with dry eyes. Miss Austen just rips my heart out with Fanny's painful desire. Here Edmund stands before Fanny and is not even aware that she might be truly the love of his life as he plows ahead pursuing Mary, professing he is aware of all her faults, while Fanny observes and knows he's all denial.

Edmund continues to assault Fanny's emotions unaware of her love for him as he confess she is one of his two "dearest people in all the world." And the other? Miss Crawford! At this point the reader wants to just grab Edmund and give him a good shaking because he IS her world! At the end of Ch 27, all is hearbreak for Fanny but thank God the story continues....
