Right to refuse   Written by Barb JA (10/6/2010 7:19 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Sir Thomas' tirade - a less charitable view., penned by Rachel G
Are you new?

My more charitable view was not intended as approval or excusing of Sir Thomas scaring the living daylights out of Fanny.

To paraphrase what a wise woman said about another character in the GR, I'm trying to understand how things look from Sir Thomas' point of view.

As far as the second disgusting aspect of Sir Thomas' rant, I don't agree that "he seems to think that she has no right to refuse an offer of marriage simply because she does not like the man and knows she would be miserable." I think that will be answered in a future chapter.

He's wrong also in thinking and allowing If the gentleman would but persevere, if he had but love enough to persevere...

But that is something more easily discussed in the future chapters.
